MARTA Honors Pursley for 42 Years of Legal Service

The Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority issued a resolution earlier this month to thank Charles Pursley Jr. for serving 42 years as its outside legal counsel. Hired in 1974 for his experience in condemnation and eminent domain, Pursley has helped MARTA acquire the land necessary for expanding the footprint of Atlanta’s rail system. In 1984, Pursley became General Counsel, the primary legal advisor to the Board, a role he held until earlier this year. “I’ve been so fortunate to be a part of the evolution of public transportation in Atlanta working with MARTA,” says Pursley. “Together with MARTA’s in-house legal team, our common goal during the past four decades has always been to help make MARTA the best transit system it can be.” During a celebration in Pursley’s honor, the board issued the resolution recognizing Pursley and announced plans to name a future MARTA rail car after him.
