Professionalism is what we should do over and beyond what we have to do. A professional is defined by his or her actions when a challenging moment arises. This paper explores the responsibility of those in the legal profession to uphold the Lawyer’s Creed in dealing with clients, opposing parties and counsel, courts, colleagues, the profession in general, and the public. More specifically, this paper recognizes the unique role that condemnation lawyers are able to play in promoting the image of lawyers as professionals. Condemnation lawyers have a unique opportunity to enhance the professional image of the legal profession simply because condemnation forces members of the general public –land owners, business owners, or home owners—to become involved in a legal action that they did not bargain for.
