Posted by on October 26, 2018 in Blog, Featured, news | 0 comments

In an article published in the Fall 2018 newsletter of the State Bar of Georgia Real Property Law Section, managing partner Christian Torgrimson discusses the growing cityhood movement in Georgia. Voters are increasingly supporting incorporating themselves into smaller cities to capture valuable resources and improve utilization of the tax base.

If the latest effort passes on November 6, the new city of Eagle’s Landing will be formed in part from land taken from the city of Stockbridge. While incorporating new cities can fuel economic growth, other long-term consequences exist, including the use of eminent domain and new or revised zoning codes that can affect existing property owners.

The impact of new zoning codes, restrictions on development, and the property needs of the new government should all be considered carefully. To read the full article, view the newsletter here
