Elizabeth R. Story1Elizabeth R. Story focuses her practice on eminent domain proceedings, private property disputes, and other litigation matters related to owning and developing commercial real estate. She is a founding team member of Pursley Friese Torgrimson. Previously, Elizabeth worked alongside Christian Torgrimson and Charles Pursley Jr. as an associate with Pursley Lowery Meeks LLP.

She has experience in real estate litigation cases representing owners of commercial and mixed-use property, shopping center developers, as well as business property owners whose interests are taken or damaged for a public project.

Following law school, Elizabeth clerked for the superior court judges of the Cherokee Judicial Circuit, assisting the judges in all phases of litigation. Previously, Elizabeth built her legal experience in a variety of different areas by working with Stewart, Melvin & Frost LLP, Atlanta Public Schools, the Family Violence Clinic in Athens, Georgia, and the Northeastern Circuit Public Defender’s office in Gainesville, Georgia.

She is a graduate of The University of Georgia School of Law, where she served as executive vice-president and intra-state chair of the Moot Court team.A native of Gainesville, Georgia, Elizabeth earned her bachelor’s degree in English from LaGrange College.

Elizabeth served as a Barrister from 2014 to 2016  in the Joseph Henry Lumpkin Inn of Court. Elizabeth currently serves on the Board of the GAWL Foundation, Inc.

  • Secured $1.5 million dollar settlement for taking and damaging of poultry farm business and land in Gordon County in lieu of a jury trial.
  • Successfully negotiated a partial taking and damaging of a local brewery business in Fulton County by a utility company for 127% over the original offer.
  • Successfully negotiated a partial taking and damaging of a medical office property in Muscogee County for over two times the original offer. Negotiation also included plan changes to include an additional driveway cut for the property.
  • Assisted with successful challenge to and negotiation of settlement for a full take of a multi-family property by a City, obtaining a 430% increase above the City’s original offer.
  • Successfully negotiated a partial taking and damaging of a condominium association’s property in Fulton County by a utility company for 73% over the original offer. Negotiation also included plan changes reducing the overall damage to the property.
  • Secured $2 million dollar settlement for taking of property and business in Muscogee County by GDOT in lieu of a jury trial, obtaining 120% more than the original offer.
  • Settled condemnation case involving the partial taking and damaging of industrial/manufacturing warehouse property in DeKalb County for 60% more than the original offer.
  • Successfully challenged in federal court the immediate taking and possession of agricultural and residential parcels in Dougherty County for a natural gas pipeline, requiring pipeline company to negotiate easement terms and compensation.
  • Settled a condemnation case involving the partial taking of a vacant commercial property for five times higher than the original offer.
